Tuberville, Palmer say SCOTUS got it right by allowing parents to remove their children from LGBTQ instruction

U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) and U.S. Rep. Gary Palmer (R-Hoover) believe the U.S. Supreme Court ruled correctly on a case dealing with religious freedoms for students in public schools.

In a 6-3 decision, the court decided that a Maryland school district must give parents the opportunity to remove their children from LGBTQ-related lessons that conflict with certain religious beliefs.

“We conclude that the parents are likely to succeed in their challenge to the board’s policies,” Justice Samuel Alito wrote for the majority. “A government burdens the religious exercise of parents when it requires them to submit their children to instruction that poses ‘a very real threat of undermining’ the religious beliefs and practices that the parents wish to instill.”

Tuberville said this is a good decision because it puts parents in charge of what they’re children are being taught.

“I mean, why in the world would we be teaching kids something other than writing and reading books,” Tuberville said Friday on Newsmax. “There are millions of books out there that kids can read in school that they can learn from, not being indoctrinated. It’s happening a lot. Especially in our lower classes now, a lot of these kids are being pushed towards that direction, and we have to watch it.”

U.S. Rep. Gary Palmer (R-Hoover), who joined an amicus brief on the case, believes the ruling protects family values.
