First dates can be pretty nerve-wracking. Sometimes, it’s also the first time the two of you have met, which makes it even more intimidating. Even if you’ve known each other for a time, a first date is still tough because this is the first time you’ve been together, alone, knowing that at least one of you is into the other one. 

Your mind is filled with questions. Maybe you second guess everything you do and say. You might even be a little clumsy or acting out of character because you are so nervous.

Will this be your last date or is it the first of more to come?

Here are some ways to know if your first date is going great.

#1 You spend a lot of time laughing

If both of you are laughing a lot on your date, it’s a good thing. Guys and girls both like when people can make them laugh. Laughter makes you feel good, it releases the stress of the day, and it bonds people together. 

Remember that laughter doesn’t have to come from telling jokes. You can make someone laugh by telling them about a funny incident that happened in your life. Laughter also comes from a place of comfort, so if you can make your date laugh, you are doing something right.

#2 There’s lots of eye contact

When someone is interested in what you have to say, they usually make eye contact with you. If you see them looking around the room, they might be trying to come up with an excuse to end the date early!

You can’t force eye contact, but if it comes naturally and both you and your date are looking into each other's eyes as you talk and laugh, there’s a good connection there.

#3 You never run out of things to say

Have you ever had one of those conversations that you never want to end? That’s a great first date conversation. If you and your date easily merge from one topic to another, things are going well.

An easy flowing conversation means that you have found things in common. The two of you are interested in each other's opinions and want to share your thoughts and ideas. The more you talk, the more you get to know each other, so if you date can’t stop talking it means she wants you to get to know her!

#4 There’s good body language

You can tell if someone likes you by watching their body language. Besides the fact that your date is smiling and looking into your eyes, you can see his interest in other things he does.

Does he lean in closer even though you’re not talking quietly? Is her body turned towards you? Instead of leaning back in his chair with his arms crossed, he’ll lean forward over the table with his hands exposed.

#5 They share something personal

If your date is going well, the person you’re with might feel inclined to share something personal. It might not be their deepest secret but they’ll tell you something they might not tell everybody.

“I don’t usually tell people this but...”

“I can’t believe I’m telling you this...”

It could be something silly, like an embarrassing childhood story, or it could be a confession about a fear they don’t like to admit. Those personal tidbits of information are things they don’t share with people they don’t like!

#6 The date lasts longer than you anticipated

Maybe you had a date to go for coffee with someone. You meet at the coffee shop and the conversation is so good neither of you wants it to end. After a while, you offer to walk her home. The walk home turns into a detour with little stops to look at shop windows or a street vendor. Then, it’s getting so late, one of you suggests dinner at a place close by. So, you go to dinner. Before you know it, you’ve spent a good portion of the day together.

When neither of you wants the date to end, you know you’ve made a great connection. It’s almost a sure thing that you’ll be moving on to a second date, soon!

#7 They make sure you have their number

Before the date is over, if it has gone well, they’ll make sure that you have their number or they’ll be sure to get yours so you can keep in touch. You might even make soft plans (nothing solid but definitely a hint at it) for the future. 

And the absolutely best sign that your first date with someone is not going to be your last? They’ll text you with the number you just gave them to say they had a great time!
