Finebaum rips Freeze, Auburn after disastrous recruiting run: ‘The one place I wouldn’t be in public right now is a golf course’

The Auburn Tigers have gone ice cold on the recruiting trail in recent weeks, losing multiple commitments for next year’s class, as the harsh reality of two lackluster seasons under Hugh Freeze begins to sink in.

While Freeze has done an incredible job bringing in talent to The Plains, a vision can only be sold for so long. At a certain point, results on the field must translate in order to be able to keep bringing in that talent.

It certainly did not help that a story was released showcasing how much golf Freeze is playing as Auburn has struggled to keep their prospects.

During an interview with McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning, SEC analyst and voice of college football in the South, Paul Finebaum, ripped the messaging from Freeze about what he inherited upon taking the job after the Tigers head coach was trolled by Lane Kiffin this week in the wake of a mounting golf controversy.

“The one place I wouldn’t be in public right now is a golf course,” Finebaum said while bringing up the tweet from Kiffin poking fun at Freeze.ye

“When I was in Auburn during the season, I got the song and dance from [Auburn Athletics Director] John Cohen about what they inherited,” he continued. “OK, I bought it, but that’s over now. Hugh Freeze has had a couple of seasons, the recruiting looked to be on fire, and now it doesn’t, so quit going back and blaming everything on Bryan Harsin…That has to end. That is a terrible message from Cohen. It’s a terrible message from Freeze. They need to sell themselves and quit blaming other people. If they keep pushing this narrative, well, I won’t say it is going to blow up in their face, I think it has already blown up in their faces.”

If the Tigers don’t get it done this fall, it’s going to be a tough sell for Freeze and his staff to stick around, and when Finebaum starts bringing up these points, it is generally not a great indicator of things to come.
