Angel Reese is not happy with the WNBA or its officials for a lack of fouls. She does not care if she gets fined by the league because the fines are so cheap compared to her income.
The second-year superstar will continue to voice her opinion.
This latest WNBA officiating gripe comes after the Chicago Sky lost its 12th game of the season by five points to the Minnesota Lynx. Reese played one of the better games of her career in the loss with 16 points on 43.5% shooting, 17 rebounds and six assists. Her point total might’ve increased if she was more often awarded the foul by Clare Aubry, Angelica Suffren, and Biniam Maru. The same can also be said for the rest of her team. They only went to the free throw line one time before the fourth quarter.
Here is just one example of a likely shooting foul that was not called:
One particular image went extremely viral on social media. Angel Reese is on her way down with a rebound. Bridget Carleton of the Lynx has her entire left arm wrapped around Reese’s waist. I cannot post the photo for legal reasons but the 23-year-old power forward responded with just one word.
diabolical.

Now, to be fair, the lack of foul calls were not the only difference between a win and a loss. These kinds of awful offensive sequences will not lead to victory either:
Angel Reese offensive rebounds often lead to turnovers/poor shots. On the 2nd play she straight arm pushes Smith, that's a loose ball foul. When I was 15, I was taught to keep the ball up when grabbing rebounds, put it back up strong. Stop with the dribble, bad things happen.

However, there was a clear discrepancy in what was called compared to what was not. WNBA officials do not blow the whistle for Angel Reese as often as they could and/or should. She yelled at them throughout the entire game. She continued to address them during the postgame press conference.
It’s tough when you talk to officials, and I ask them, “Hey, we’ve only been to the free throw line twice up until the fourth quarter,” and she tells me it’s not her job. It’s frustrating because I know how hard we’ve been battling inside, and I think that we came down and fought as hard as we could with what we had […]
It has to be fixed. And I don’t give a d— if I get fined because that s— cheap. And I am tired of this s— because I’ve been nice and I’ve been humble with it but I am tired of this s—.

You could see the frustration on her face and in her body language.
I’m so glad she chose to speak up about these terrible officials. The refs need to get it together because players will continue to get hurt if they keep getting away with this. pic.twitter.com/EoyQQkFPyh

Reese later doubled down on X.
idgaf. DO BETTER. @WNBA

The Minnesota Lynx absolutely hacked Angel Reese throughout the entire game. She has a point. WNBA officials probably should’ve been more strict with the whistle. They allowed a lot of contact.
Then again, this is a reoccurring theme with the WNBA. Its players want more fouls. The officials continue to let them play. It is a physical league!
